For Episode 3 we have our first guest on the show, John Turner of SeedProd. Along with joining into our usual discussion around WordPress development, John gives some insight into his own business, how he got started, what he does day to day, and what he has been working on.
We ran a little long last episode, so we’ve made an effort to keep it around 30 mins this time and will do so in the future as well.

Another great episode, thanks guys! It’s awesome to hear about your experiences with running development on the side – I am in a similar situation to John in that I work a day job and do plugin development / web design by night. I’d like to get more into the plugin development side but I am very worried about the amount of support time involved :S
Support can vary a lot depending on the plugin.
I’d advise you to at least try it. If you discover you can’t take the time to support it adequately, you can always reevaluate. I have some plugins that require zero support, and others that require a lot, so it changes with every plugin.
I do support while I’m at my day job but most just to say I’m looking into and we’ll get back to them. I agree, your support level will depend on your plugin. I’m a little fortunate in that I sandbox my plugin by default (ie. no wp_head or wp_footer) and have a toggle if they need to use a shortcodes or for some other reason they need to include these hooks. Most plugins don’t have this luxury.
